Now this is, where it starts to get interesting. Not only will you get better runestones in the NL box but you also get Companion Upgrade Tokens which will allow you to improve you favorite pet without resorting to AD (if you buy enough of them that is). Remember that the upgrade tokens are not tradeable. So if you possibly want to upgrade a pet make sure you open the boxes with the correct toon. All the other stuff is tradeable.
* I have only opened 58 special Pack boxes. To make the results comparable I have scaled them to 100 opened boxes, which led to fractional results in two cases.
NL box has a much higher chance to give a purple asset plus more Black Ice or more ressources.
 
And another quantum leap in ROI on the profession box. MUCH better yield of purple items from NL box. In fact you are guaranteed, to get at least one purple item from the box, often you will walk away with two or even three purples. There will also be some blue and/or green ressources in both boxes but that's mostly peanuts. Note, that this influx of purple assets to the Auction House has led to a significant decrease in prices for GM and Mithral, so now might be a good time to stock up on things you need.
I'll conclude this overview with an article, that has been discontinued with the NL box. You can only get this from GR or one of the elemental evil boxes. Prices for wheels and archons had dropped sharply in AH but with the advent of the NL lockbox and the decrease in offers the prices are again up, so, even if you don't need these items for yourself, you can still sell them. Of course, chances are that you will only get a transmute or emblem.
In conclusion, if you are prepared to open a LOT of boxes or feel VERY lucky, the Glorious Resurgence Lockbox offers more / better amazing stuff. But the new and improved packs from the New Life Lockbox are just that much better that 99% of the time you will probably have better luck opening a NL box. Plus, after selling the contents of a thousand NL boxes you should be able to just put the 17mil AD on the table and buy that Tenser's Disk.
Influx of profession items (including Black Ice) has reduced AH prices to a point where you might want to take a look if you are doing any professions at all.
